Ethics & Materials Leto Lama Jewellery

Jewellery is an intimate object.

The materials and the way they are handled matter.

I work in solid gold and natural gemstones, crafted by hand in my London atelier. Responsibility, for me, begins with material integrity and controlled production.

Gold

All pieces are created in solid 18ct, 20ct or 22ct gold.

I work exclusively with recycled gold, purchased as bullion from established precious metal dealers in London. The gold is refined by internationally recognised LBMA-approved refiners, including Metalor.

Each finished piece is independently hallmarked by the London Assay Office in accordance with UK law, verifying the purity of the metal.

I do not work with plated or gold-filled materials. The gold used is solid throughout.

Gold dust and offcuts generated during the making process are collected and returned for refining and reuse.

Gemstones

I use natural gemstones sourced through long-standing relationships with trusted gem dealers and cutters.

The coloured gemstone supply chain is complex, and full mine-to-market traceability is not always possible within the independent jewellery sector. Rather than make broad claims, I work with established suppliers whose standards and practices I have come to trust over time.

Some coloured gemstones may undergo standard industry treatments, such as heat enhancement. or oil for emeralds. Where known and relevant, this is disclosed.

Each stone is individually selected for its colour, character and proportion. Combinations are not replicated, which makes each piece inherently one of a kind.

Craftsmanship

All work is created by hand by me in London.

I do not outsource production to factories or operate mass-production systems. Each piece is individually constructed, sculpted and finished.

This direct involvement allows full control over materials, construction and quality at every stage.

Longevity

Responsibility also means durability.

Solid gold construction and considered stone setting allow each piece to be worn, maintained and to be able to be repaired over time. These are objects intended to endure — materially and emotionally.
